Scale
- 2 cups self-rising flour (see notes)
- 1/2 cup butter cold, cut into pea-sized cubes
- 3/4 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. After this,Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour and butter. Use a pastry cutter, fork, or two knives to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse meal and the butter is evenly distributed.
- Pour in the milk and stir until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels sticky, gradually add more flour, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches the desired consistency.
- Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead for 20 seconds. After this,Add more flour if the dough becomes sticky.
- Roll the dough to a thickness of 1/2 inch and use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits. If there is any remaining dough, press it together and continue rolling and cutting more biscuits.
- Bake the dish until the top is lightly golden brown and it smells fragrant, which usually takes around 10 to 12 minutes.
Notes
- You can substitute 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt for the self-rising flour.
- You can also use shortening as a substitute for butter.
- You can make the biscuits in advance and freeze them before baking. When ready to bake, add an additional 3 to 5 minutes to the baking time straight from the freezer.
